On New Year's Resolutions

Monday, December 31, 2012

 | Scenes from home this last weekend of 2012. |

I'm not a big New Year's resolution person. I tend to just list things I should have done last week. I'm going to run more. Start being nicer. Oh, and I'm going to drink less coffee. I'm going to read the Bible from cover to cover and figure it out. I'm going to stop spending so much time on the computer. Take my dog for a walk every day. Eat more vegetables. Take my fish oil. Lift weights regularly.

Suddenly, I have an overwhelming list and I don't know where to start. And most of the things aren't even hard. So this year, I want to focus on something specific and big--not just a laundry list of things I should eat and read.

I'm an anxious person a lot of the time. I worry about things that I can't control. So this year, I'm going to worry less. Worry less, and reach out more.

It's simple enough; I need it; and I think I'm going to be a lot better off because of it.

Do you have a New Year's resolution?
I'm also going to lift weights. (And take fish oil.)

  2. Oh yes, those new year resolutions. Does ANYone ever keep theirs? :) For sure not me. But I always like getting a thing down to a single basic concept I can remember, and your plan for the year sounds perfect: worry less, reach out more. Yes I think we could all do better with that.

  3. I think that's great! I suck at New Year's resolutions too, so this year I decided on two 365 Projects that I think will help me with what I want to accomplish.

  4. That sounds like a good resolution! Walking my dogs more often (preferably everyday) will definately be on my list. Hopefully I can stick to this year's resoulutions. I tend to give myself to many goals which makes accomplishing them... well slightly unrealistic!

    Have a nice New Year's Eve :)

  6. January, because of the new year and because it follows the holidays and because it's my birthday month has historically been my healthiest. I have ended every bad relationship in January, been into working out and usually done something different to my hair every January since I can remember. So anyway, what I'm trying to say is thta I don't set resolutions for the New Year but I do plan to continue hitting my January reset button. Good luck with your worry less goal! It's a great one. Maybe read this to get started: http://www.mindydefelice.com/stress-love-happiness/

  9. I just posted about this yesterday! My word and goal for 2013 is drink. And by that I mean soul drinking....God has told us that He is the fountain of living water. As I drink in His Word and so come to know Him I will be full of life. With life comes peace, and strength, and joy, and hope, and faith. So, if I do nothing else in 2013 (and obviously I'll do a lot else), I will have done something for myself that will bring me to a better place. 2013 will have something major to show for itself.

Two worriers picking something simple and totally feasible for the new year! Hope your year is a good one, lady!

  11. I'm with you on resolutions, but the more I read everyone else's, the more i think maybe I should make a longer list.

But alas, for now my only "resolution" is to do Whole 30 for the month of January.

    Here's to a healthy and happy 2013!

  12. This is always my resolution:

Each day when I wake up, I decide I will try for just one day to be the person I want to be. Then tomorrow when I wake up, I will decide if I want to make that choice again. I always do. One day is easier than an entire year.

    Happy New Year, Freckles!
