The Weekend | To Minneapolis

Monday, April 22, 2013

Minneapolis is quickly becoming one of my favorite places. Rob living there has a lot to do with it, sure, but the place is just cool. As I sat in the airport waiting for the last leg of my travels, I had a thought that I've never had before:

I'm so glad he took this job, because otherwise we would have missed out.

Remember that bright side I was talking about a couple of weeks ago? I've jumped on it with both feet.

I whipped out my camera on our walk to brunch at Edina Grill on Saturday to find that my battery had died and I hadn't packed the charger. After a Bloody Mary (mine) and a mimosa (his) paired with a delicious meal of English muffin-less Eggs Benedict (mine) and a ham and cheese egg scramble (his), we headed to the Mall of America, where I got a new charger, but I still didn't take enough photos after I got my camera fired up.

Here are the highlights:
+ Best dinner ever happened at Chino Latino
(Get a Cucumber Cooler and please don't leave without having the spare ribs.)
+ Had an okay latte (Rob got a mocha) at Peace Coffee, but the shop itself and neighborhood are quaint and cozy and I'd go back again.
+ Walked by Moon Palace Books after coffee but didn't go in because of a sign that said "Puppet Show in Progress." This is Minneapolis, and it's awesome and hilarious at every turn.
+Took lots of naps, watched lots of our shows, slept in on Sunday.

  1. Minneapolis sounds great! Glad to hear you had a lovely weekend. Mine was perfect too (a lot of gardening and tea-drinking!).

  2. ha I think Rob being there has everything to do with it :) Any place that still has snow at the end of April is not worth visiting, in my opinion. Glad you kids had fun though!

  3. Chino Latino is the BEST! I traveled to Minneapolis for work, and people always look at me like I'm crazy when I say it was a pretty cool city. Granted, I went in June - going in February might give me a different impression...

  6. I love love loooove that city! Mind you I was fortunate enough to live there for a couple years. You should go again in summer and bike along the Greenway - it's a really nice pedestrian/bike highway that goes along the cities and leads to the path that goes around the lakes. It's seriously stunning!

Also, pretty decent coffeeshop that I use to hang out in all the time is Spy House - They're pretty amazing and then get some fresh and creative ice cream at sebastian joes. oh I could go on, but for you sake I'll stop, lol!

  7. I've had several friends that have lived in Minneapolis that absolutely loved it. BTW, I love how you differentiate what food/drink items were yours vs. his. Very cute. :)

  10. I happened across your blog not too long ago and am so glad you are starting to love Minneapolis. It's my city and I love it here.

Other places you might be interested in:
    - The Blue Door Pub; there's a new one that just opened near the Peace Coffee (if I think I know the one you're talking about based on your photos)
    - Cafeteria in uptown has good drinks
    - Uptown movie theater is one of my favorites to see films that or Lagoon theater near by
    - Matt's Bar is the best Juicy Lucy ever - home of the original (South Minneapolis)

    >....I could go one but I'll stop. (Any small coffee shops around are usually awesome, there are many to choose from around)For anyone curious, normally there isn't snow in April...it hasn't happened in my lifetime actually (according to the news it was 1983 time before now!)

  12. Chino Latino is SOOO good. Having the magnet on the fridge is just mean - makes us want to go back instead of cooking dinner.
