I Can See Clearly Now by Johny Nash on Grooveshark

The more time I spend at home with my family, the less I want to leave when Sunday evening rolls around.

This reminded me of a scene I saw in Downton Abbey; in which one character says to another that being homesick isn't something to be ashamed of, because it means you come from a happy home. I don't know any of the characters' names, because there are far too many of them and I've only seen three episodes so far, but that exchange stuck with me.

I am a sometimes anxious and often strange young woman full of quirks that confuse even myself. But I'm not ashamed of much. And I'm certainly not embarrassed to admit that I started crying in the passenger seat as soon as we drove away.

Most of the pictures I took this weekend are of food.

My brother and his friends were on Spring Break this week, so on Friday they all came to the lake. I rode with my mom from Charlottesville, and Rob came to meet us from North Carolina. Together, we ended up having a wonderful time and sharing some really good food. My parents' house has always been the perfect place for magical little gatherings like this.

Spring is coming. I have never been more ready.

  1. spring IS coming! i've never been more excited either. for once in our relationship, i'm looking forward to a summer spent together [and our wedding], rather than dreading a summer spent apart. i can't wait.

also, you look so pretty in that last picture. so happy :)

  2. Looks like your weekend was full of good food- that's the best kind!

  3. Looks like a great weekend....nothing better than family and good food =).

  4. I'm pretty sure Mrs.Hughes said that to William, and that line stuck with me as well.

These photos made me so excited for our blogger reunion!!!!!

  5. I love that quote from Downton Abbey so much and can completely relate. I am not a crier, but when I leave my family in SA to come back to London, I bawl like a baby. I used to be embarrassed about it - I want to be seen as strong and in control, but I love my family so much. They are my heart, and having them ripped from me once a year is probably the only time I tell myself it is okay to cry.

  6. the best weekends ARE all about the food though!! and that seafood meal looks divineeeeeeeee!!

at least you're lucky enough to live driving distance from your family. i have to hop on a 3 hour plane ride to see mine :(

  7. I'm beyond ready for spring as well. Might I add, all of that food looks scrumptious!!

  8. what a seafood spread! looks delish. we made red snapper and scallops for dinner saturday with some homemade mango salsa. i could eat that dish every night.

  9. Hey! This looks like the perfect, filling weekend! I'm sorry I never got back to you about getting together - it was a busy, stressful weekend and things didn't come together like I expected them too. Next time please?? And I'm 100% with you about leaving home...I still get teary every time we hit 81 back to Blacksburg =\ I'm going home to visit my Mom + Sisters this weekend, so it's bound to happen again soon! xoxo, eliza

  10. I'm with you on that- I am so ready for spring. And wow- such beautiful pictures of food. Why is it so easy and appealing to take photos of food? Yummy!! xo

  11. Mmmm....that table is gorgeous and oh so edible!!! lol. And YOU, my friend, are gorgeous...your smile BEAMS right through my computer screen and makes my day brighter. Cheers to good food, and great family!!!

  12. oh how I wish I had a lake house to run away to!!!

  13. Yum!!!! It all looks so wonderful!
I can totally relate, I get sad every time I leave home again after too short of a visit. Lovely blog, I hope you'll come see me!

  14. I feel the same way about home! And bring on the Spring! :) Glad you had a lovely weekend!

  15. It's Mrs. Hughes, the head housekeeper. I just finished the two seasons, she's fresh in my head :)
