We Can Swim Any Day in November

Sleeping In by The Postal Service on Grooveshark

I don't remember when November became my favorite month--it must have been one of my undergrad days at Longwood. When you start something in August (be it school or moving to a new city), it takes until about now for you to really hit your stride, I think. The days get a little shorter, but your home feels a lot cozier, and the weather starts doing that thing where you almost feel like it's winter, but are still enjoying fall.

I guess being someone who feels so ambivalent about transitions, it only makes sense that this time of year is my favorite. I may not always care for uncertainty and change, but I do like dreary skies, morning fog, and chilly afternoons.

November begins the year's homestretch--we have two more months to make 2013 everything we wanted it to be. And if we just want to bake and drink tea and read instead, then that's just fine, too.

Happy November, friends, and happy weekend.

  1. Bake, drink tea & read...these are a few of my favorite things! We look forward to winter all year long, those are the days when it is nice enough to sit on the covered swing in the back yard, and taking the dogs for a nice long walk. Our summers are brutal and everyone stays indoors and turns the a/c down so low that you need to take a sweater with you every where you go!

  2. I like the idea of reading and drinking tea and having, as best possible, a peaceful last two months of the year. After all that 2013 has brought, I'm ready to curl up inside and enjoy a few dreary days.

  3. That album always takes me back to when my husband and I started dating. And November 1st was the day that we met. So November is a good month :)

  5. It's not often that I admit to myself that I like the winter time, but more often than not I feel myself longing for the wintertime.

  6. I really like the idea of looking back at everything that I wanted for this year and seeing if I'm close to that. Right now, it's feeling like I should start scrubbing everything in my room before winter arrives and I'm forced to settle in. ;)

  7. I think I like November more and more each year. It's something about Thanksgiving and going home for that week to relax and stuff myself with food. Plus it actually gets cool (most days) during November.

  8. I love November too! October always feels like a real slog, but you're right- November feels like the home stretch. I feel a bit more lost than normal at this time of year (perhaps because I DIDN'T start anything new in August/ September for the first time ever), but I'm excited to see what the next few weeks bring! xx

  10. This is most definitely my favorite time of year too. It's finally gloomy around here, which I love! And you're right...we have only two months left, so let's do this ;) xoxo

  11. This is the perfect time of year to spend afternoons drinking tea and reading while you have something in the oven. And, of course, in the middle of the winter too.

  12. November is my favorite month, too, but my work schedule is getting in the way of my baking and drinking tea and reading! That's all that should be allowed to be done in this weather.
