Not All Those Who Wander Are Lost

Thursday, January 9, 2014

I've been feeling some pretty serious wanderlust lately.

I've traveled. Not like some people do, but I've been across the United States and to Canada and Mexico, the Bahamas, England, Italy, France. I've had my fair share of enlightening city and museum tours and mind-blowing pasta. It seems like a lot and then I look at a map of the world and my travels feel almost insignificant. I was a baby in Hawaii once.

But lately I've been thinking about Norway (these photos didn't help). And Ireland. I want to have tea in a foggy little mountain town where sheep roam about on really green grass. In May, I'll be Mrs. Peterson in the Dominican Republic, and after that I want to travel more.

I've been a couple of times before, but I want to get to know Seattle. Re-visit San Francisco (woops!--doing some research already) and eat really good sushi, and clam chowder out of sourdough bread bowls. And then I'd like to find myself in Europe and Scandanavia, drinking coffee and taking gorgeous hikes on unfamiliar trails.

Where have you been? Where do you want to go?

  3. Wanderlust is definitely something which you cannot get rid of, once it got you. I am currently staying in France and seriously enjoying it. Going abroad and exploring new countries is real fun. And though I am from Europe, I've never been to Scandinavia. Definitely on my list for places to visit in the future.

  4. I love this - Norway looks beautiful.
I've never left little old New Zealand but I will be leaving the country/moving countries for the first time in 45 days. It's only across the ditch to Australia but I hope from there my partner and I get to travel to all the places we'd like to see (New York, Venice and Egypt to name a few).
I hope you can make your travel dreams come true soon!

    1. I hope Megan doesn't mind me talking up another blog =), but Lynzy if you've never heard of "Love Taza" check her out, she talks a lot about international travel with kids/babies and gives very insightful tips/tricks. She makes me believe that maybe I could travel internationally with kids and not want to rip my hair out HA!

  7. I know exactly what you mean! I'm so grateful for the job I have, and if you'd told me when I was 18 or 19 that my career as a corporate graphic designer would completely pan out I would have flipped out, screaming and jumping up and down with glee. However, having had the opportunity to study abroad for four months in England all it takes is a certain song or picture at work and I'm TOTALLY itching to ditch this 9 to 5 thing and explore the world. Nostalgic for some adventuring! Adventure soon Megan, so I can live vicariously through your blog/photos =P

  9. I hear you! My wanderlust hits HARD in the spring and then again around October...I've never left the country, but I have been ALL over it. My "dreams" were NYC at Christmas, Mount Vernon, and Cape Cod. I checked them all of a few years ago! Some other favorites over the years have been: Baltimore, Savanah, Wilmington, and the mountains anywhere in the southeast. Keep dreaming! Can't wait to hear about Mrs. Peterson's trip to the Dominican Republic! :)

  11. I spent a couple of months in Senegal and spent quite a bit of time in Austria. I've visited London and been to different places in the US. I would like to spend more time in the US, but I'd also like to get out of the country again. It's been way too long. I've been dreaming of Norway and Iceland for awhile. I'd also like to go to France and Italy. And Santorini has always been on my list of places to go to soon. My best friend is Vietnamese and we've always talked about going to Vietnam so that she can show me where she's from.

I have a strong case of wanderlust too. :)

  12. Definitely come to Norway - it's awesome!! I may be biased though! I would wait until May to go, since the weather is much better then! (possibly).

I have the travelling bug myself. Need to see new places all the time. In 2012 I visited 8 new countries, whereas I didn't see anywhere new in 2013. Which means I am getting restless now!!

  13. Did I miss a blog post? You'll be in the Dominican Republic?!

I'm with you on the travels girl. Life gets too busy for us though but it's mostly money. We've looked and looked... Tours can be cheap but flights... forget about it!

Hope you get a chance to go to Norway. :)

  14. Oh now I wanna travel!!!

I've been to the Dominican a few (okay I think it's 5 or 6) times and I have loved it every time! It is so beautiful and the people are just darling. I hope you really enjoy your time there!

Also, I'm dying to see Ireland and Scotland so if you visit these places, make sure you take a zillion pictures and share them!!
