[Autumn in Montana.]

Reading Little Bee by Chris Cleave. I'm only a few pages in, but I really like it already. This is really the first time that I can remember having time to read whatever I want, and I love it. I miss being in school and really miss going to class, but it's nice to just pick something and not necessarily have to write a paper once I'm done.

Watching the new season of Boardwalk Empire. I forgot how much I love this show. Anyone else? I love Jimmy's little son, want to punch his mother in the face, and think Margaret should just run away somewhere with that Irish guy!

Listening to lots of my Bon Iver station on Pandora. I "add variety" with Explosions in the Sky and Sigur Ros, and it's seriously the best station in the world. It's the perfect chilly weather music! Holocene will always be one of my favorites.

Thinking about how much I love running. I quit going to CrossFit when I started my job, telling myself that I'd give myself a chance to rekindle my relationship with running, and as of this week I've finally stopped making excuses and have started using my lunch hour to go on a run. Today was a little warm for my taste, but in general it's been beautiful out and it feels so good to go to bed at night feeling like I used my body.

Loving how much it feels like fall. My scarves are out and I actually need my morning coffee on my drive in to the office in the mornings. I don't use the AC anymore! My mom made chicken soup! Soon it will be time for stockings! I wore my trench coat and everything on Tuesday. But more than the clothes and the food, I just love the way fall makes me feel. It's hard to explain--it's like I get a chance to be exactly who I'm supposed to be when autumn comes.

Looking forward to seeing Rob this weekend! Being away from each other all week is hard, but missing a weekend together is ridiculous! I have so much respect for people whose partners are in the military or travel constantly for work--it's rough being away from the one you love, and Rob and I are lucky that we get to see each other every weekend.

Making me happy that I'm starting to pay my grad school loans back. It feels so good to be making enough money that I feel excited about making payments every month. And it doesn't hurt that the fact that I'm even making payments in the first place means that I have a master's degree and a job! "Real life," you might not be so bad after all.

What about you guys? Thanks, Dani, for always inspiring me with these posts!

  1. Love, love, love Boardwalk Empire. I have the first two episodes of the new season on the dvr because my husband and I watch it together when he is home on weekends. We also love Boss. Love me some Pandora, too! I like a blues mix. I don't love running. I make great chicken soup. My beef stew is arguably even better. About to start reading "Super Immunity", mostly because I asked my husband to buy it on his Kindle and I figure if I up the pressure by making it our little book club selection, he will actually read it. Early spring we read "The Great Gatsby" together. Getting together with various friends for the past eight days straight makes me very happy!
    P.S. Pretty picture!

    1. It's so good! I haven't seen Boss. The Great Gatsby is one of my favorites--I just re-read it this summer!

  2. I didn't love Little Bee. It just never had a peak. I kept waiting for it, but it never happened, which I found frustrating. And Boardwalk Empire....love! I agree about Margaret and the Irish guy.

  5. I love running! Seriously, nothing makes me feel so good after. I feel like my day isn't complete if I haven't gone on a run.

  6. I read Little Bee ages ago - I remember loving it at the beginning but that faded as it went on. We started Boardwalk Empire a few months ago but I haven't been able to get into it. I'm going to give it another try in the future though. I felt the same with Mad Men in the beginning but now I'm hooked!
I just downloaded the new Mumford & Sons and so excited to give it a listen!!!

  7. thank you for phrasing the running bit as you did - it's exactly how I feel! like when I run I'm honoring my body by challenging it. yes!

  12. Bon Iver really is the perfect fall music - my autumn playlist could definitely benefit from some Explosions, but I couldn't agree more on the Sigur Ros (mine's here):

  14. "it feels so good to go to bed at night feeling like I used my body."

This nicely captures my feelings about "Why do you run?" And I'm totally going to steal it. Happily tired legs are the best!

  15. I tried getting back on the running train this week, but then it was Ben's bday week so we got real busy. Hopefully this weekend and next week. I just love how it makes me feel so much.

and yes to feeling the most like yourself in a certain season. except mine is summer. so I get LOVING a certain season. but I did just get a super cozy infinity scarf, so I'm warming up the idea of autumn a little bit :)

  16. okay, two things.
    1. Holoscene will always shake me right down to my bones.
    2. In the class I TA, Intro to Media Systems, the professor was lecturing about the process of TV pilots. Did you know Boardwalk Empire's pilot cost $18 million? (for comparison, the average costs about $2million). But man, the sets and styling show it!

  17. We're one season behind on Boardwalk Empire...watching season2 now! We LOVE it! And props to you for being happy about paying back students loans...that's one thing I think I'll never be happy to see come out of my account!

  18. I definitely understand your feelings about fall. It just makes me feel so happy when the weather is cool and the leaves change. It's not quite here yet, but I'm excited for fall to get here soon.

And I can't wait for the day when I can read for pleasure instead of for school! I try to squeeze in books I actually want to read, but mostly I only have time for lots and lots of academic articles and text books. I'll be happy when I'm done with grad school.

Also, I may have to check out Boardwalk Empire when I have time to start a new series...

  19. I just added the "variety" you mentioned to my Bon Iver Pandora station, and I'm hooked. Thanks for the suggestion! Also, I love the way you talked about fall...how you can be exactly who you're supposed to be. That's how I feel during the snowy winters out here in Colorado...like I've finally found a climate that lets my soul breathe. It's amazing what a difference the weather can make.
