Not All Those Who Wander Are Lost
Thursday, January 9, 2014
I've traveled. Not like some people do, but I've been across the United States and to Canada and Mexico, the Bahamas, England, Italy, France. I've had my fair share of enlightening city and museum tours and mind-blowing pasta. It seems like a lot and then I look at a map of the world and my travels feel almost insignificant. I was a baby in Hawaii once.
But lately I've been thinking about Norway (these photos didn't help). And Ireland. I want to have tea in a foggy little mountain town where sheep roam about on really green grass. In May, I'll be Mrs. Peterson in the Dominican Republic, and after that I want to travel more.
I've been a couple of times before, but I want to get to know Seattle. Re-visit San Francisco (woops!--doing some research already) and eat really good sushi, and clam chowder out of sourdough bread bowls. And then I'd like to find myself in Europe and Scandanavia, drinking coffee and taking gorgeous hikes on unfamiliar trails.
Where have you been? Where do you want to go?
Vacation in Photos | Williamsburg
Wednesday, September 25, 2013
I'm going to dump a few more photos on you for now, and then that should be it until I start showing you my favorite shots from our engagement session, which I'm pretty sure is going to end up being a series of three posts full of just photos. Woops.
We spent our second week in Virginia with Rob's family in Williamsburg, and I had some time to meet up with friends like Sarah and my college roommate, Michele. I ate sandwiches on gluten-free bread and drank wine for lunch and had afternoon espresso every day. And then there was the park, where William ran around and acted like a five year old even though he's one and a half.
On Friday we went to Farmville and on Saturday my other college roommate, Caroline, got married in Charlottesville. We really did Virginia! It was a great vacation, but I'm glad to be back. By the end of our two weeks away, I found myself referring to Minneapolis as home, and it feels good. Virginia is always going to have a piece of my heart, though.
What have you guys been up to? I can't believe it's already Wednesday!
Vacation in Photos | Roanoke
Tuesday, September 24, 2013
I spent my first week back in Virginia at my parents house in Roanoke. It felt weird to come "home" and call it "vacation," but it somehow managed to feel like both. I spent time with friends, getting drinks, having dinner, and going on coffee dates. I went to the gym and then to the spa with my mom, had a wedding dress fitting, got dresses for my bridesmaids, cuddled with my dog, and read a book. It was great.
On Friday morning, Rob flew in from Minneapolis and I picked him up at the airport. We got coffee and did some grocery shopping for my mom before heading home, then back downtown for lunch with his friend, Ed. A few hours later, Rob's brothers and their friends were arriving, and we went back to my parents' house for beers and hard cider on the back deck. The next day his parents arrived with his oldest brother, his wife, and my sweet nephew-to-be. My best friends Tina and Emma came over, and everyone got acquainted and we had a little engagement party.

There's not much better than having so many people you love all together under one roof.
Hello from Minnesota | Back at It
Monday, September 23, 2013
Last night's airport date. Celebrating fall and traveling together with OktoberFest (his) and hard cider (hers).
Hello from my apartment in Minneapolis! Rob and I landed late on Sunday night and I'm just writing this quick post before I hit the hay. I've had such a wonderful time over the past two weeks seeing friends, spending time with my family, having our engagement photo session, and seeing a college roommate get married. I can't wait to share some photos I took while I was away. It feels good to be back and I have a to-do list a mile long, so this week will certainly be busy!
Because I don't usually leave my blog unattended like I did last week, I wanted to take a second or two to link to my current sponsors and thank them for supporting me and my blog. While I get back to my regular posting this week, I hope you'll stop by their blogs and/or shops and say hello.
PS If you're interested in sponsoring, the info is right here.
Thanks for hanging with me while I took some time off!
I'm looking forward to catching up on blogs, comments, and emails with my coffee this morning!
Hello from Roanoke
Monday, September 9, 2013
I landed in Virginia yesterday and it is so good to be home.
I'll be spending the week with my family before Rob lands on Friday and his family gets in on Saturday for a little engagement dinner and celebration before we head to Williamsburg for another week. Until then, I have friends to catch up with, morning workouts and a Tuesday spa date with my mom, a wedding dress to try on, and a really sweet old dog to snuggle and go on walks with every day.
I have some posts scheduled to go live while I'm away, but feel free to follow along with me in real-time on Instagram.
Wishing you a warm and happy Monday wherever you may be!
Week in Photos // Family Reunion at the Beach
Monday, July 15, 2013
A week in Corolla meant naps, sunscreen, walks (and drives) on the beach, wild horse sightings, and plenty of laughs. My extended family consists of a couple Paleo eaters, a few vegetarians, and several of us are allergic to dairy and/or gluten-free, so there's always plenty of good food to go around, too.
It was a good week.
From the Beach
Friday, July 12, 2013
It's been so nice hanging out with my extended family all week, and wonderful as always to spend time with Rob. It's hard to believe that I'll be moving in with him in less than three weeks! There's still so much to do before then.
I hope you all have a great weekend! We're leaving early Saturday afternoon, but until then I'll be swimming in the pool, walking along the beach, and reapplying that sunscreen!
How has your week been? You can check mine out a bit more on Instagram.
Wishing you a Relaxing Weekend
Friday, July 5, 2013
This week has been a little stressful, so a Thursday off did me a world of good before I even knew it.
I slept in a bit, spent extra morning time in the kitchen (my favorite) with my mom, puttered around outside with bare feet, washed my hair in what must have been the longest shower ever, met a friend for coffee, ran to Target, took my dog for two walks, and had cocktails and ribs at home.
Rob lands in Roanoke later on tonight, and tomorrow morning we're hitting the road with my family to spend the week at the beach. My dad's brothers and sisters all meet up every other year, and usually it's on the West Coast, but this year everyone is heading this way. I'm so excited to catch up with everyone, and can hardly believe that Rob and I will be spending eight whole days together for the first time in a year.
Hoping this weekend gives you exactly what you need.
Jigsaw Travels: Explore, Discover, Escape
Tuesday, June 18, 2013
I was so excited when Jigsaw London asked me to represent Virginia in their fun summer campaign this year. They're following bloggers around the country, getting insider details on the best places to stay, eat, shop, and go out. I decided to stick with what I know best--Roanoke and Charlottesville. They aren't big cities by any means, but I love them.
You can check out my recommendations right here.
Where do you live? What are your favorite spots there?
