Back Again | Thanksgiving in Photos

Thursday, December 5, 2013

Spending two weeks away for Thanksgiving was really nice. It's great to be back in Minneapolis, though. I never realized how quickly Rob and I would just fall into life here, or how much it would feel like home in just four months. The snowy city was a wonderful site from my airplane window last night, especially after three and a half hours of delays.

So now I'm back, catching up on emails, cleaning, laundry, writing, and unpacking before I get ready to do it all again in a couple of weeks for Christmas. It's good to be home, but it was also good to be home.

I hope you had a really nice holiday.

Wishing You a Happy Thanksgiving

Thursday, November 28, 2013

It has really been so nice spending time at home this past week--seeing friends, going to my favorite restaurants, taking time to just catch up with the people I don't see enough anymore. Virginia is gorgeous and my parents' house is as warm and comfortable as ever. This morning we're heading downtown to run the Drumstick Dash and then, like every other year, we'll get coffee at Mill Mountain before heading home to get ready for a day of cocktails and eating. That's what this time of year is about, right? Spending time with your family; doing all the traditions (especially those that involve coffee, liquor, and eating), and feeling overwhelmed with everything we have to be thankful for.

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope it's full of love, laughter, and really good food.

Hello from Virginia

Tuesday, November 26, 2013

Just taking a moment today to pause and say hi from Virginia in something other than a pre-scheduled post. I got in on Thursday afternoon and my schedule has been jam-packed since I landed in Roanoke. I'll be here until December 4th, doing some wedding things, seeing so many friends, working out at CrossFit with my mom, loving on my sweet dog, and cooking for Thanksgiving.

On Friday night, my brother and I watched Les Miserables after dinner and then this weekend I had two of my college roommates over for a reunion sleepover. It's been a really fun few days. Feel free to follow along with me on Instagram if you're interested!

I hope you're all having a great week--Thanksgiving is just around the corner!

Recipe: A Paleo Thanksgiving | Mushroom + Sausage Mashed Sweet Potatoes

Wednesday, November 20, 2013

Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday--mostly because of the food--so it was not without a bit of anxiety that I experienced my first Paleo Thanksgiving a few years ago. My mom has always done a fantastic job coming up with Paleo-friendly Thanksgiving alternatives, so this year I used her as inspiration when Relay Foods asked me to make them a Paleo Thanksgiving-themed dish. It's full of sweet potatoes and sausage and love.

Get the full recipe here.

Thanksgiving in Photos

Wednesday, November 28, 2012

A few pies, a huge turkey, too much gluten, two parents, a boyfriend, a brother, a cousin, and some neighbors made for another wonderful Thanksgiving at the lake. These photos are reminding me that the weekend already feels even further than long gone, but better late than never, right?

Life Lately According to Instagram (#12)

Saturday, November 24, 2012

Good morning! It's a cold Saturday here in Roanoke and I'm sitting in the kitchen with my coffee while my mom cooks up some sausage and pancakes for everyone. Rob, my brother, my dad, and my cousin Brendan are all still asleep and I just love the feeling of being awake in the quiet morning of a full house! The fire is going and Rocky is lounging. This is the life!

I'm sharing several phone photos with you this morning--here's the last bit of November as told by Instagram:

1. Finally got to try Ginger Woodchuck--it was so good and it even matched my outfit!
2. Tailgating at Hampden-Sydney. More Woodchuck!
3. Took an autumnal walk around a pond with Rob.
4. Together in New York.
5. Van Cortlandt Park.
6. Finished The Paris Wife
(and I'm still not sure if I feel worse for Hadley or Hemingway).
7. Sean roasted some venison for us. My first deer meat experience.
8. Casual Friday on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
9. Shooting with film for the first time! I'm anxious to get it developed.
10. Thanksgiving dinner.
11. Black Friday WOD at RVCFTim is such a great coach.
12. Paleo banana bread just how I like it--with a ton of grassfed butter on top.

What have you been up to lately? Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

A Very Paleo Thanksgiving

Thursday, November 22, 2012

Happy Thanksgiving! I love this holiday so much; I think it might even be my favorite.

My best friend Patrick comes home with his fiance, Chad, and Rob comes home, and my cousin Brendan comes to visit, and Sean is always already home for break (oh, college!). We eat all weekend long and we make delicious cocktails and in the morning we run the Thanksgiving 5K downtown before heading back home to do more eating and cocktail drinking.

Anyway, I wrote a piece about Thanksgiving for The Equals Record and I hope you might read it right here.

What are some of your Thanksgiving traditions?

Thanksgiving Week

Monday, November 19, 2012

On this Monday morning of Thanksgiving week, in which I am extra sleepy from getting home too late from New York last night and falling, exhausted, into bed without so much as editing a photo, I thought I would make a list of things which make me feel grateful.

+ a weekend away, short as it may have felt
+ time, lately, that I've found to sit down and read
+ a three day work week starting today
+ a fire going in the fireplace every morning as I drink my tea
+ Sean coming home (for the week!) tomorrow
+ plans for a movie date on Wednesday with my dear friend Claire
+ chapstick on my poor lips
+ a little blog re-design on Freckled Italian scheduled for this week
+ a Thanksgiving at home with my family

For what are you thankful?

Weekend in Photos // Thanksgiving

Monday, November 28, 2011

One cousin, one brother, one boyfriend, two parents, two neighbors, two dogs, three different cocktails, a three point one mile race, twenty-five pounds of turkey and more food than we knew what to do with. It doesn't get much better than that.

Holidays at the lake are always so perfect.

Several Days of Thanksgiving

Tuesday, November 22, 2011

How Lucky We Are by Meiko on Grooveshark
I don't know if you know this, but my last day off was October 29th. Seriously. All I can say is that I am so very tired.

So I'm sure you'll believe me when I say that I have not only been looking forward to these next few days, but that I really need them. After work today at noon, I'm going to Roanoke until Friday. I'm not bringing my computer. I'm just bringing Rob, some laundry, and a few books.

I can't wait to get to the lake.

I am thankful to be working so much, but I'm also thankful for the chance to slow down, spend a few days with my family, and take the time to remember what's really important in life.

Like breathing.

Wishing you and yours a very wonderful week of Thanksgiving.
