Christmas at the Lake
Monday, December 30, 2013
We're back! I didn't pick up my camera as much as I thought I would when I was home for Christmas. My time in Virginia was spent with family, friends, and more food than I think I've ever eaten at once. It was just huge meals and fun cocktails for like six straight days. It's crazy that I won't be back again until March, but I'm so glad I got to spend two weeks for Thanksgiving last month and ten days for Christmas. Spending time at home with my family is always really nice.
Now it's back to regularly scheduled life--so bear with me for a few days while I get to my emails and resume regular posting! Hope you all had very happy holidays.
Music for the Holidays
Monday, December 23, 2013
I have a guest post for you today from sweet Kate of Thoroughly Modern. She's put together a Christmas playlist for you to enjoy this week, so I hope you love it!
Hello, Freckled Italian readers! My name is Kate and I blog over at Thoroughly Modern. I refer to it as a "lifestyle" blog because it really doesn't fit neatly into any other category. I write about pop culture, our sweet goldendoodle, how to act like a Power Couple, and the occasional recipe vlog, just to name a few!

| Sometimes, I even pretend to be fashionable. |
Out of all of the topics I write about, my favorite is music--it is one of very few things in this world that can make my heart fill with emotion. Sometimes I like to pretend I'm a music snob, but I love Katy Perry, Tay Tay, and other fun music just as much as the next girl.
Christmas music is incredibly special to me, as dorky as that sounds. You know how it's said that scent ties strongly to memory? While I believe that to be true, I also believe that a certain song can trigger memories just as easily as any old smell, and for me, that holds especially true for Christmas music.
| Can you spot me? I'm OBVI the one in the all pink, Little Mermaid outfit. Even at a young age, I was a style icon. |
Just a few notes, and I'm instantly transported back to childhood, the soft glow of the Christmas lights in the background, cookies baking in the oven, and the pleasant smell of fires burning in chimneys all over the countryside. I'm reminded of running wild all over my grandparents' house with my cousins, putting on my prettiest dress for Christmas Eve mass, and sipping sparkling cider in wine glasses so we could feel like adults. Christmas music brings me back to seasons past, times of warmth and love, and the belief in magic and miracles, even in the shortest, darkest days of the year.
You won't hear too much from me on my blog this week, as I'm taking a few days off to spend time with my family (like Megan, I'm also spending Christmas in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of SWVA). But, you can probably find me on Instagram and Twitter, and I will be back to blogging when I return to Nova. For now, I leave you with a playlist of my very favorite holiday songs for you on this Christmas week--I hope it warms your heart and overwhelms you with the happiest of memories.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
All Love,
Kate

Traveling Day | Back to Virginia
Wednesday, December 18, 2013
I can't believe it's been two weeks already, but this morning I'm headed back to Virginia for Christmas! It's definitely going to be a weird one without Rocky, but I'm really looking forward to spending some more time with my family and meeting up with my sweet friends. I don't plan to publish a blog post every day as usual, so feel free to follow along with me on Instagram, where I tend to over-share, especially when I'm visiting home.
Talk to you guys again soon! Safe travels to anyone else headed home for the holidays this week.
Holiday Gift Idea: Under Armour Cold Gear
Thursday, December 12, 2013
Under Armour recently sent me a few awesome hats and I wanted to share just how awesome and warm they are. I'm excited to be stuffing our stockings with plenty of UA cold weather accessories this year. Stay warm out there!
Holiday Gift Idea: Koss Fit Series
Tuesday, December 10, 2013
This post is sponsored by FitFluential LLC on behalf of Koss.
I'm not usually one for holiday gift guides, but I do have a handful of pretty awesome sponsors this month whose products would make wonderful presents for the people on your Christmas list.
First up is Koss, whose Fit Buds and Fit Clips are actually changing my life. I've been using the same old earbuds for years, and they're worn to bits and fall out of my head with every other step I take. Koss' female designers teamed up with Gold Medalist Dara Torres to create the world's first headphones designed specifically for women.
Also, they're just really fun.
Get 'em at Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Walgreens, Kmart, or Sears this season. Happy holidays!
Thank you again for your support as I take on a few more sponsors this month. I only work with brands that I love or use myself, so I hope you find these partnerships of mine beneficial to you in some way.
What I Wore 59: Christmas Tree Shopping
Monday, December 9, 2013
We had a really cold weekend here in Minneapolis. When I woke up on Saturday, it was -11 degrees outside, but I was still super excited to go out and get our Christmas tree. In past years, we've always just set up a mini fake one, but this year Rob and I both really wanted to get a full-sized real one. This year away really has me eager to start some new traditions.
So I slapped some leggings on underneath my jeans and it was Christmas Tree Shopping Day! (From here until, well, April, outdoor What I Wore posts will probably contain less photos and more watery eyes. It's a little chilly out there.)

Sweater: GAP | Jacket: Old Navy
Earmuffs (mine are in Chestnut): UGG Australia
Mittens: My mom's old pair. I love these things.
Short Rain Boots: c/o Joules
Joules recently sent me these little boots and they're so cute. I know they're mainly meant for rain, but the furry lining inside did a pretty decent job keeping my feet warm for a while. I probably could have done the pants thing with socks and worn two pairs, but I think that's just Minnesota. The color is so fun and they're grippy enough for slippery sidewalks! I'm a fan.
And look! Our tree is so cute.
How was your weekend? Anyone else get a tree on Saturday?

A Look at Our 2013 Holiday Cards
Monday, November 25, 2013
I'm someone who sends holiday cards out on Christmas Eve, sprawling a large "Happy New Year!" across the top so they don't seem so tardy, so I was really excited when Minted offered to send me this year's holiday cards in October. They're a little more organized than I am, and this year, friends and family will receive their cards, if not before Christmas, then certainly before 2014.
The quality of Minted's products is really just amazing.
And I'm giddy to have another excuse to show people our engagement photos.
Are you sending out holiday cards this year?

Arizona in Photos
Thursday, December 27, 2012
I'm back home and only about half-ready to jump back into real life--I can't say I'm too upset about this two day week leading into another long weekend, though! Arizona was a nice change of pace, and although most of the pictures I took were with my phone, I did take my camera out a few times to snap a few decent ones.
Merry Christmas, Darling
Tuesday, December 25, 2012
It's a little weird to be away from my parents and brother today, but it's beautiful here and I'm so happy to be spending time with Rob and his family. I hope you have a wonderful day, no matter who you may be celebrating with this year.
Merry Christmas!
Hello From Arizona
Monday, December 24, 2012
Happy Monday and Merry Christmas Eve to you!
I'm enjoying my time in Arizona with Rob's family and his awesome, adorable nephew. Our flight on Saturday was wonderful and I immediately ate a burger and fries from In-N-Out, and who can complain about that?
Today, Rob and I are having lunch with my aunt and uncle who live in the area, and then I think we'll do some exploring around Scottsdale and Mesa. There's a coffee shop I want to try out, but other than that I'm not sure what I should be doing! Does anyone familiar with the area have any suggestions for me?
My blog posting might be sporadic over the next couple of days, so feel free to follow along on Instagram!
Missing Boots and Old Photographs
Thursday, December 13, 2012
Somewhere in the rush of the holidays, when you're stressing out about what gifts to get for whom and if you're spending too much or not enough on each and how you're going to see everyone you need to see and where the hell your favorite boots have gone off to, your brother comes home from college and the two of you sit on the floor of your basement for two hours reminiscing and laughing until you cry, and then you remember what exactly this whole season is about.
Missing boots don't really mean too much when you have a life full of love.
What I Wore 40: Wannabe Kardashian
Tuesday, December 11, 2012
If there's one thing I love more than hearing Silent Night this time of year, it's black tie optional.
Sometimes these things call for a trip to the mall and a new dress, but once December hits, I try not to spend any money on myself until after Christmas. Unless it's for liquid eyeliner, which I totally bought for myself on Friday afternoon. Luckily, I've had this awesome dress hanging in my closet for a month or two, just waiting for Rob's work party in DC, so there was no need to buy a dress while I was at the mall.
Dress: c/o Chi-Chi
Fur: Vintage
Tights: J.Crew | Cocktail Ring: Mom's
Shoes: Jigsaw London
Nail Color: Red My Fortune Cookie, OPI
I got this fur at a yard sale as a small child and used to play dress-up with it all the time. Because I've been watching a lot of Mad Men recently, I remembered that it's been hiding in the back of my closet for years and years, so I took it out and what do you know? It's pretty!
Happy holidays!
Let the party season begin!
